We live in a world of picture-perfect people who live vivid-videoed lives that are almost always the product of pain-staking photoshopping, rehearsing, mega-marketing, and spin-doctoring.
The opposite of this are those who show up on “reality” TV behaving so outrageous that one wonders what planet they stepped off.
Somewhere in the middle lies reality. But with the snippets we get from social media and the news, mingled with the crazy busyness of our lives, it’s hard to see anything clearly.
Then, in walks fiction.
It’s usually pretty clear in fiction to tell what is truly possible and what is pretend. That truth, makes it easy to relax and enjoy the pretend for what it is. It also allows us to look at the possible in a more objective, open-minded way.
With fiction, it seems easier to be objective and more openminded in our view of characters, their choices, and situations than we are with those we know personally. This enables us to better see the good, bad, and ugly. Because we know, that no one is perfect and neither is anyone completely horrible–though some may seem to come pretty close.
The same holds true for situations and circumstances. Not everyone has it all good or bad. We are all a mishmash of good and bad attributes. Sometimes we make wise choices and other times not–with a variety of outcomes. Those outcomes either improve or compound our present and future situations. (To put it simply.) That is why I call my stories, “Jagged Journeys.” For most of us, our lives don’t resemble the straight line to whatever our hopes and dreams were. Instead, they are quite jagged. Some of our lives have traversed all over the place. Others, have spun around in circles, with divergent treks, sometimes into pits, brier patches, steep mountains, or rocky cliffs.
So, I hope you’ll come along with me and meet these characters, some are wild and wooly, others shy or sneaky. Some may be like you or I, others might be like…well, I’ll let you decide.
