Three Blind Mice – A Fun Halloween Short Story Caper
When your attempt to pull a prank backfires…
Jax, Lee, and I peeked out from behind the overgrown rosebush that leaned over the peeling white picket fence. We watched the farmer’s wife chase after something in her wild garden…
Just the image of the middle-aged Mrs. Brown and her older-than-dirt husband sent children scurrying and rumors flying. At age thirteen, me and my best friends, Jax and Lee, were going to make this Halloween one to remember. Sure, we were still going to snag as much free candy as possible, but we’d heard about Mrs. Brown’s fear of mice and were determined to see the weird old lady run—like she’d made us run.
With suggestions from my older brother Ray aka “Razor,” we started early and set the stage for a haunting like none Mrs. Brown had ever seen. Certain she would be scared out of her wits; we implemented a Halloween Trick sure to live in infamy.
Only, things didn’t turn out quite as expected.
