Soul’s Prey

A Tabatha Soul Mystery – Book 1

Soul's Prey - A Tabatha Soul Mystery by I.W. Smith

Forensic scientist Tabatha Soul has only one chance to prove herself and a newly created program pairing her with Portland, Oregon detectives. After only a few hours on the job, it’s clear her boss at the crime lab thinks the program is a waste of money.

Sent to a brutal murder scene of a college student on her first morning, Tabatha is determined to make her dream job a reality. Arriving late, without equipment, eager, and bossy, Tabatha is met with coldness and irritation. She hopes for more from her new partner, the handsome detective, Jalen Peterson. But Peterson, who arrested her heart the moment they met, doesn’t want to waste time sharing what they know.

She struggles to make sense of his coldness and uncooperative attitude. “Detective Peterson, you do realize we’re on the same team?” Tabatha argues.

“Until the program’s cut.”

Claiming budget problems, her boss limits the amount of evidence the lab will process.

After another college student is found murdered, clues reveal both victims had ties with an international crime organization. Tabatha’s new friendship with the first victim’s girlfriend sets her at odds with Peterson and her boss, who threatens termination.

Believing the girlfriend is in danger, Tabatha is torn between saving the young woman from a professional killer or her dream job.
